This introductory Orton-Gillingham-based course provides teachers with a solid understanding of the basic elements of the Phonics First™ multisensory reading and spelling program. Course content includes: alphabet and phonemic awareness strategies; the three-part drill for structured review; tactile/kinesthetic spelling techniques for phonetic and non-phonetic words. Participants have opportunities for hands-on lesson practice with other participants. Emphasis is on teaching reading to beginning, struggling and learning disabled readers in primary grades.
